Πρώτη και καλύτερη η ταινία της Debra Granik, Winter’s Bone (βλ. κριτική εδώ), η οποία μάζεψε 7 υποψηφιότητες, που περιλαμβάνει και Καλύτερης Ταινίας, Καλύτερο Σκηνοθέτη, Καλύτερο Ανδρικό και Γυναικείο Ρόλο.
Το Winter’s Bone έρχεται με φόρα καθώς κέρδισε και το βραβείο Καλύτερης Ταινίας στα Gotham Awards πριν λίγες μέρες και ίσως πάρει ώθηση και για τις μεγάλες υποψηφιότητες της Ακαδημίας.
Τα άλλα φιλμ που πήραν πολλές υποψηφιότητες είναι το The Kids Are All Right της Lisa Cholodenko, το Rabbit Hole του John Cameron Mitchell (είδατε το trailer πριν λίγες βδομάδες) και φυσικά το Black Swan του Darren Aronofsky.
Στις εκπλήξεις, θετική εντύπωση προκαλεί η παρουσία του The Last Exorcist ενώ το Never Let Me Go φαίνεται να αγνοήθηκε, παίρνοντας μόνο μια υποψηφιότητα στα τεχνικά.
Τα Indipendent Spirit Awards είναι παραδοσιακά η απονομή που γίνεται λίγες ώρες πριν τα Όσκαρ, έτσι δε θα μάθουμε τους νικητές νωρίτερα από τις 26 Φεβρουαρίου 2011, μια μέρα πριν τα μεγάλα βραβεία.
